The Prostatic Jazz Band’s Jean Maurer

It would appear at first glance that Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise is taking a break from the pennywhistle and trying his hand at the washboard, but this is Jean Maurer of the Prostatic Jazz Band.

He starts off in what we might call an unorthodox approach to the board: his massive specialty rig, built to be played à la française, is dangling vertically from his waist, seemingly putting the bells, cymbals and blocks and frying pans out of reach. He reaches them, though, and rips off a few tasty fills before finally sitting down and playing the board across his lap, as God intended.

About two-thirds of the way through the tune, he plays an extended solo and manages to use every piece of equipment he has.

I can’t find a home page for the Prostatic Jazz Band, but you can find their videos all over YouTube.
